The 12-month Pediatric Nurse Residency Program, also known as our Transition to Practice Program (TPP), is designed to provide the nurse resident with an opportunity to transition into the role of a professional nurse under the guidance and support of our clinical nursing staff, nurse educators and program facilitators.
The program includes a Human Resources orientation, a Unit-Based orientation, and acute and critical care tracks.
The acute and critical care tracks include curricula designed to augment the learning experience for the nurse resident through professional development and to achieve the overall goals of the program. The acute care track includes nurse residents from inpatient acute care, radiology, psychiatry and peri-operative services. The critical care track includes nurse residents from the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department (at Sheikh Zayed Campus and United Medical Center).

The 4 Main Medical Unit is a fast pace 22 bed unit that provides patient-family-centered care to acute and chronically ill infants, children and adolescents. These children have a wide variety of medical diagnosis to include RSV, Bronchiolitis, Asthma, Pneumonia, Croup, Kawasaki, Hyperbilirubinemia, s/p T& A, Lymphadenitis, Cellulitis and Gastroenteritis. The average length of stay is 12 to 72 hours. Therefore, a multidisciplinary collaboration among the medical teams and nursing staff is vital to delivering safe care.
All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, ***** and specialty nursing standards, ***** ***** Policies and Procedures, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Professional Model of Care requires registered professional nurses to be responsible and accountable for their own practice. ***** ***** supports the development of RN relationships within the community; specifically those relationships associated with the health and well being of the community at large.
