PRN Lactation Consultant
The Lactation Consultant (LC) focuses their clinical practice on providing assistance to breastfeeding mothers and infants, conducting comprehensive maternal, infant, and feeding assessments related to lactation, and offering education on pregnancy, childbirth, lactation, and parenting. The LC provides specialized services including individual consultation, breastfeeding classes, and instruction in the use of specific breastfeeding assistive devices. They also act as a resource for families, staff, and providers, advocating for breastfeeding while respecting a woman’s right to infant feeding choice. The role involves providing care based on established clinical nursing practice standards endorsed by the American Nursing Association and in accordance with the Florida Nurse Practice Act, IBCLC, and AWHONN standards. Collaboration with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care and achieve desired patient outcomes is essential, supporting the organization’s vision and mission. The LC integrates knowledge of patient age and cultural diversity into patient care provision and contributes to delivering quality nursing care through excellence in customer service, utilizing performance improvement techniques for positive patient care outcomes.
