General Responsibilities To work with nursing leadership to direct nursing service activities in the assigned care unit for the duration of one shift and/or in the absence of the Nurse Manager. To provide professional nursing care for patients in assigned care unit. To support nursing leadership in the coordination of patient care, personnel management, physician/interdisciplinary collaboration and general administrative duties. Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Effectively manages patient care by demonstrating expert nursing skills and serving as a role model. Collaborates with all members of the healthcare team and monitors the delivery of care to ensure achievement of desired patient care outcomes.
2. In collaboration with the nurse manager, supports efficient and effective daily operations including, but not limited to, staff scheduling, monitoring performance and staff interviewing/selection. Ensures efficient allocation, distribution and use of resources consistent with the delivery of safe, cost effective patient care and in alignment with budgetary guidelines. Demonstrates effective management and problem-solving skills.
3. Works to optimize and to shape the culture of the nursing practice environment by overseeing and demonstrating practices that promote shared governance, professional practice, healthy work environments and engagement in the community.
4. Conducts unit operations according to relevant knowledge of patient safety and quality standards. Provides surveillance and feedback on issues affecting patient safety and quality.
5. Serves as a change agent. Assists in championing unit based and hospital wide initiatives designed to improve patient care and operational efficiency by delivering and promoting education.
6. Demonstrates leadership skills that promote the vision, mission and values of the hospital by maintaining visibility on the nursing unit and communicating openly and effectively with all stakeholders to support the organization’s strategic imperatives and direction.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualification
Requirements: Minimum Requirements Associate's degree in Nursing and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Licenses / Certifications / Registrations Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the ***** Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the AHA is required within six (six (6)) months from date of hire to role. Depending on the unit/department, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the AHA, or other comparable certification as appropriate for the age of patients to be treated, may be required within six (six (6)) months from date of hire to role.
