Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner – Oncology/Gastroenterology

The Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse who practices within their scope of practice as appropriate in their jurisdictional area and in accordance with their organizational Medical Staff Bylaws. The provider is responsible for the management of care to patients including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, and the assessment, implementation, and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. Provides leadership and consultation with their respective clinical area through participation in division/department initiatives and mentorship of others. Participates in division/departmental and organization wide initiatives to represent advanced practice and leverage the role of the advanced practice provider.All advanced nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, ***** and specialty nursing standards, ***** ***** Policies and Procedures, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Professional Model of Care requires registered professional nurses to be responsible and accountable for their own practice. ***** ***** supports the development of APRN relationships within the community; specifically those relationships associated with the health and well being of the community at large. Credentialed by the medical staff and licensed to function in an expanded nursing role as an Advanced Practice Nurse to a group of patients. Acts in a collaborative and integrated practice with a physician and is responsible for the management of care to patients assigned including: diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, and the assessment, implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. All activities are performed within the guidelines of protocols agreed upon by the authority of licensure, the medical and nursing divisions, and the medical staff bylaws. Provides leadership and consultation within a specialty area through participation in division/department initiatives and mentorship of others. Participates in Divisional/Departmental and organizational wide initiatives to represent advanced practice nursing, and leverage the role of the advanced practice nurse.

The successful candidate will be invested in helping to build local pediatric hematology, oncology and stem cell transplant services. They will play a role in clinical patient care, care coordination, overseeing infusions services, telehealth and patient/nursing education.

The clinician will provide clinic visit support for gastrointestinal (GI) patients at the Children’s ***** Fredericksburg Clinic. Initially to include routine follow up visits. Training will be provided under the supervision of the GI attending physician; duties will also include urgent/sick visits and regular NP visits. The incumbent will also assist our nursing team in resolving sick calls and other patient care coordination needs, in the absence of our GI attending physician.
